Saturday Bliss!

SO we managed to get a crew together and go for a spin around town this weekend.  As I left home there were a few drops of rain that very nearly made me turn back to get a proper sweatshirt.  Leaving home without extra layers in Cape Town is tempting fate.  But I decided against it.  And it turned out to be a good choice.  By the time I got to our meeting point in Long Street, the sun was out in full.

I briefly met Sarah, but she had to go off on a bridesmaids date or something.  Cool to see that we do in fact already have girls on fixies here.  So our group was made up of David, Mettie, Gavin and myself.

We set off towards Green Point, but not without an initial few hiccups.  Barely 2 blocks down the road and I snapped a toe-clip right off the pedal.  Then at Green Point stadium, against our better judgement, we decided to bash it through the construction site.  Some of the locals were well perplexed to see four randoms piling through.  “Waaasie fokken goet se brieke!”

Then cruising along the shoreline, Dave’s camera strap got caught in the back wheel.  I still can’t believe how he managed to keep from stacking it, but a quick flip of the bike got us on the way again.

Finally we started a good long roll all the way down to Bantry, stopping off at every open space to chase seagulls and bust out a few tricks.  Every time Mettie pulled one of his never-ending wheelies a collective “YO-YO-YO-YO-YO-YO-YO” went up from the locals.  Good Crack!

Dave bailed early, so Mettie, Gavin and I pushed through to Camps Bay.

The last part of the ride was blissful.  The road becomes high and bendy with great views over the Atlantic.  Drinks on the strip in Camps Bay were a fine pay-off and recharge for the ride back. Roll on summer.  I wanna do this every weekend.

Check out some of our pics.  Video will be coming as soon as i can get a decent editor.

Photo creds to David Malan and me.
