Shidi’s Kinfolk

By Mettie February 3rd, 2011 Permalink

I’m going to continue using the Chinese New Year as a thinly veiled excuse to post more beautiful examples of Kinfolk’s craftsmanship. Damn you Shidi, whoever you are. Your bike is perfect.

Schindelhauer bikes

By Emil January 31st, 2011 Permalink

Some time toward the end of last year I was paging through an issue of Wallpaper and came across a feature on a German bike designers/builders that had me drooling all over the page. It was enough to pull me from my reclined position on the sofa, all the way over to my desk to check out their webpage.

What I found was an absolute delight! www.schindelhauerbikes.com

They’ve already pulled in a couple of design awards, and with their 2011 updates coming in the next two months or so, these guys are sure to put out some exciting models.

They’ve got a couple of models catering to different tastes, but the Viktor caught my eye, and has been stuck in my mind since the day I saw it. To make it even worse, Jorg @ Schindelhauer kindly responded to my mail (gushing about the bikes) to inform me that not only are they happy to ship to SA, but we also skip on paying the 19% German tax.

Want. One. Now!!!!

From their site:

Schindelhauer Bikes represent urbane sportiveness and timeless elegance you can fully trust in. In accordance with the motto “Pure pleasure riding a bicycle” our bikes are designed and made for tough everyday use. Furthermore, they are unique by means of bike technology. Above all they embody that purist style which enables them to be far more than simple means of transportation. Waiver of all superfluous details give Schindelhauer Bikes their unique and original character which is displayed to the last detail throughout the range of models. Due to the long-lasting Gates Carbon DriveTM belt used, all Schindelhauer Bikes offer a number of outstanding properties: freedom from maintenance, durability and reliability. For this reason the drive heralds a new age throughout the urbane cycling world. It is the icing on the cake on the timeless and minimalist Schindelhauer Bikes.

A bike, on a cobblestone path, with shadows. Too cool!

Are you willing to take up the daily challenge on the streets of your city? Victor won’t let you down and supports you all the way. The Gates Carbon DriveTM belt gets to the very heart of the philosophy of Fixed-Gear-Bikes: they are absolutely maintenance-free. Waiver of all superfluous details is the ideology of the hard-minded purist. Only 8,7 kg in total weight is a challenge, yet Victor shines by robust components that are essential for tough daily usage.

Hot Shit!

Flying high & riding dirty

By Mettie January 24th, 2011 Permalink

Paying to fly with a bike is a bitch.  I remember getting stung for £250 just to make sure my Volume was on the same flight back to CT as me. As a way to get around the extortionate luggage charges, the guys Kinfolk have created The International Bike, which is fitted with S&S couplers to allow cyclists to carry their bike as carry-on luggage.

In pieces – with enough space to fit your Duty Free shopping:
