While partnerships between designers and football teams take place all the time, collaborations between designers and cycling teams are far less commonplace.

Having worked extensively with Rapha in the past, Paul Smith teamed up with them again for a spot of cross-promotion. The result is a chilled little short that further convinces me of Paul Smith’s coolness. What a legend!

Patrick Seabase x Grimsel Switzerland

Okay, WOW. These are some of the most spectacular cycling shots I’ve seen in a long time!

Swiss cyclist Patrick Seabase tackled the infamous Grimsel Pass in Switzerland, climbing and descending alpine passes that would test professional and experienced road cyclists. Riding his brakeless prototype carbon track bike, Patrick averaged speeds of 30-35km/h, with descents at speeds of up to 80km/h.

Revolution Store Opening Recap

The Revolution store opening in Long Street last Friday can be summed up in three words: Bikes, Booze and Bros.

I was hoping to see more riders out, but people mostly came for the free beer.

I’d had a murderous day at the office, so I wasn’t feeling particularly social. Winning a pair of DVS/Cadence shoes in the lucky draw (all totally above board, I swear) cheered me up though!

Most of the night was spent deciding on a route for the alleycat. After much deliberation we decided on do a route on and around Long Street. It was pretty sketchy, with obstacles including schizophrenic Long Street drivers, traffic lights, drug dealers, cobblestones and oncoming traffic. Gavin and Cammo Dave took first and second place respectively. I took DFL, but it was all good.

DVS Milan CTC Cadence – Cape Town launch

Having received favourable reviews from the fixed gear heavyweights, the extravagantly-named DVS Milan CTC Cadence shoes are finally launching THIS FRIDAY in Cape Town.

In addition to the launch, there will be a photography exhibition by Michael Tymbios, an exhibition of customised fixed gear bikes by Tobie Groenewald, a screening of the Fast Friday documentary, a bike race (with prizes) AND food and drinks.

Wallpaper* bike in a bag

Chances are you’ve seen the Wallpaper* International bike already, but on the off chance you haven’t…

For their Handmade issue, Wallpaper* commissioned the bike above, which is capable of being broken down using S&S couplers and squeezed into a leather tote.

The frames were handcrafted in Osaka by 71-year old master frame builder Shuichi Kusaka of US-Japanese operation Kinfolk, the rising stars of bespoke bike building. Frames were then shipped to Portland for a paint job by Coat. The bikes also feature limited edition leather saddles, produced especially for the bikes by Brooks, one of the world’s most respected saddle makers.

Sounds like quite the bike. And it comes at quite a price: $3,800 for the bike and the same again for the bag.
